The decision particularly devastating in light of the announcement from the United Nations that one million species face extinction worldwide, and that Australia has one of the worst rates of extinction. We need to turn things around, and fast.
Labor has called the approval of Yeelirrie a "shonky deal", and has committed to introduce new environmental laws. We need to make sure these laws provide independent, transparent, and science-based assessment processes that protect nature, wildlife, and biodiversity.
With Federal Labor condemning this decision, now is the time to call on them to review the Yeelirrie approval if they form Government after the election.
Please ask Labor Leader Bill Shorten and Shadow Environment Minister Tony Burke to commit to review the flawed Yeelirrie approval, and to introduce national environmental laws that are truly independent, transparent, and evidence-based.
