Welcome New Government

Thanks to people and communities like you who campaigned on a range of issues before the election, the McGowan Government has been elected with a strong mandate on the environment – and they are off to an encouraging start.

Recently we met some members of the new Government for a community welcome at Parliament House. And they gave us a clear message – we need to keep encouraging them and keep up the pressure!

We know the McGowan Government are being pushed to back down on some of the key commitments they made on the environment before the election.

But the new MPs are telling us your petitions and emails are important - helping them to represent us, and reminding them of the things that matter to the community who elected them.

Here are some of the actions and commitments from the McGowan Government we’re pleased with - you might like to thank them for some of these too:

Stopped Roe 8 and started the rehabilitation of the Beeliar Wetlands
Announced the closure of WA's oldest and most polluting coal fired power station
Allocated $1.5m to contribute to the purchase and protection of Carter’s Wetlands
Announced support for a ban on plastic shopping bags and confirmed their intention to introduce a Recycling Refund Scheme for WA
Scrapped plans to build a road through coastal dunes in Scarborough
Re-negotiated federal funding for Roe 8 to go into other projects, including Metronet
Environment Minister Stephen Dawson has personally visited the Helena Aurora Range in the Great Western Woodlands which is threatened by iron ore mining
