  Talking points:

  • Introduce yourself (share your name, suburb, and why you’re concerned about the climate. Explain that you are calling to urge Minister Whitby to reject Woodside’s North West Shelf Extension proposal.

  • Extending the project to 2070 could lock in over 6 billion tonnes of climate pollution from the Burrup Hub. This is more than 13-times Australia’s annual emissions!

  • NWS will worsen climate change impacts we're already facing here in WA, including jarrah forests collapse, coral bleaching, deadly heatwaves and more!

  • The Burrup Peninsula (Murujuga) where NWS lies, is a sacred place for Aboriginal people and home to over one million petroglyphs, some of which date back over 50,000 years. These beautiful and culturally significant artworks are eroding from the chemical pollution from the NWS!

  • The NWS is completely at odds with the WA Government target for net-zero emissions by 2050!

  • If approved, NWS paves the way for the Browse gas project, where Woodside plans to drill 50 wells around the pristine Scott Reef, a vital nesting ground for endangered green sea turtles and feeding ground for endangered pygmy blue whales.

  • The NWS also risks opening the pristine Kimberley region to tens of thousands of fracking wells.
