The majestic forests and wetlands of Gelorup are the wrong place for the McGowan Government to construct the Bunbury bypass.

The Gelorup Corridor is prime habitat for so many critically endangered and vulnerable species. It is home to the Western Ringtail Possum and the Black Cockatoo, along with many other mammals, birds and riparian creatures.

Giant Tuart trees, Banksia woodlands, incredible wildflowers and rare native vegetation are set to be bulldozed, when several alternative routes are available with a far lesser environmental impact.

Please email the Minister now, and urge the McGowan Government to direct Main Roads to choose the better route.

Dear Members,

I am writing to urge you to help protect the Gelorup Corridor from destruction. The environmental harm imposed by the current proposal for the southern section of the Bunbury Outer Ring Road is simply far too great.

Australia has the highest rate of animal extinction in the world, and we cannot afford to destroy the remaining habitat of any critically endangered species.

The project will clear large woodlands of Banksia and giant Tuart forests, which are critically endangered under federal environmental law.

453 large trees of breeding habitat for the endangered Red-tailed Black Cockatoo and 71ha of prime Western Ringtail Possum habitat will be lost forever. Many other species on Australia’s national threatened species list live here, including other mammals, birds, turtles and riparian creatures.

There are Aboriginal heritage sites located within the project area. It is absolutely unacceptable that Main Roads have not yet engaged in proper consultation with the Traditional Owners of these sites, as required under state law.

We belong to a large community who oppose this harmful, outdated route. With thousands of acres of cleared land nearby, there are several environmentally viable alternatives and we will support you in advocating for a better route.

Please protect our critically endangered wildlife and places.
