Despite their staggering emissions, companies like Woodside, Chevron, Shell and BP have no pollution limits, and no requirements to get their climate damage under control.

The EPA has suggested new rules for WA’s biggest polluters to offset their climate damage through investments in clean industries like renewable energy, tree planting and carbon farming. Independent analysis commissioned for our Clean State project shows this would create over 4000 jobs – more than the combined workforce on WA’s giant LNG refineries.

I am shocked that uncontrolled carbon pollution from WA’s gas industry is cancelling out the benefits of all renewable energy installed across Australia every year. While companies like Chevron and Woodside claim their gas is a clean fuel, the truth is that these companies are by far the biggest polluters in WA.

New research by Clean State has revealed that pollution from WA’s LNG industry is several times greater than from coal burning and is driving up Australia’s emissions in direct breach of the Paris Agreement.

Yet the McGowan Government is letting these companies get away with no pollution limits, even though controlling LNG emissions would create thousands of new jobs across WA.

The EPA has suggested new rules for WA’s biggest polluters to offset their climate damage by making investments in clean industries like renewable energy, tree planting and carbon farming, right here in WA. Independent analysis shows this would cost just 2% of WA LNG company profits and create over 4000 jobs – more than the combined workforce on WA’s giant LNG refineries.
