Protect Our Wetlands

Brought to you by Rethink The Link and Conservation Council of WA:

The Beeliar Wetlands are one of the last parts of a globally significant biodiversity hotspot, with Aboriginal heritage values that predate the pyramids.

But over the last few weeks, many of us have stood together at these Wetlands, horrified as we watched bulldozers obliterate part of an ancient bushland.

We need to show Premier Barnett and his colleagues that this calculated act of environmental vandalism will lose the Government votes in every electorate across Perth. Only then will they start to listen.

People all over Perth are contacting their MPs, volunteering, and donating to support the community outreach campaign, which will mobilise thousands of voters to show their support for the Wetlands. Will you join them?

Together, we can be part of history. Join us in holding the Government to account, and protect our precious Beeliar Wetlands from the devastation of the unnecessary Roe 8 toll road.

CALL YOUR MP

We need to show that this act of environmental vandalism will lose the Government votes in every electorate across Perth.

People are phoning their Members of Parliament right now, asking them to stop Roe 8 from destroying the globally important Beeliar Wetlands. Will you call yours?

The Beeliar Wetlands are:

  • An important home for 220 plant species and 123 bird species. Fauna includes Southern Brown Bandicoots, Carnaby’s Cockatoos, and Rainbow Bee-eaters which migrate from South East Asia every year
  • Part of the Swan Coastal Plain, an internationally recognised global biodiversity hotspot and the only one recognised in Australia. 80% of the wetlands on the Swan Coastal Plain have already been permanently damaged or lost
  • A precious part of Swan Coastal Aboriginal heritage, in particular the Beeliar group, with a history that predates the Egyptian Pyramids
