Dear Premier Cook,

I urge you to protect Scott Reef from Woodside's Browse gas export proposal.

Scott Reef is one of the most diverse and pristine marine ecosystems in Australia. It provides habitat for protected species including the green sea turtle and dusky sea snake. It is also a key feeding ground for migrating whales and other marine species.

Woodside plans to drill up to 57 wells around Scott Reef for the Browse proposal. The closest of these wells would be less than three kilometres from the edge of the reef. We should preserve this coral reef for future generations, not let it be industrialised for the sake of Woodside's export profits.

Scott Reef is part of WA's natural heritage. Decisions about its future will be remembered for generations.

Additionally, carbon emissions from Woodside's Browse proposal would intensify the global climate crisis, causing more extreme weather events including heatwaves, bushfires and floods.

The gas from Browse would be exported overseas, while Western Australian communities and nature pay the price.

The best way to secure long-term, reliable and affordable energy for WA is to rapidly transition to renewables, and we already have enough gas to get there without the need for new projects.

Please ensure this unique and precious reef is protected.
